
Prop Master
A Prop Master is responsible for sourcing, creating, and managing props used in theatrical productions. They work closely with directors, stage managers, and other production team members to ensure that props enhance the storytelling and bring the production to life. This position requires a combination of creativity, organization, and attention to detail.
Entry-Level
Role: Assistant Prop Master
Responsibilities: Aiding in sourcing and acquiring props, prop construction and maintenance, organizing and cataloging props inventory, working with the Prop Master and other production team members as needed.
Mid-Level
Role: Prop Master
Responsibilities: Sourcing, acquiring, and/or creating props to meet production requirements, supervising prop construction and maintenance, managing prop budgets and expenses, maintaining accurate records of props used in each production.
Advanced-Level
Role: Senior Prop Master
Responsibilities: Managing multiple productions simultaneously, developing and implementing strategies to enhance prop quality and efficiency, establishing relationships with vendors, artisans, and other industry professionals, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and guidelines for props.

Creativity: Ability to think creatively and resourcefully to acquire or create props that meet the requirements of each production
Organization: Strong organizational skills to manage prop inventory, budgets, and production schedules effectively
Attention to Detail: Ensuring that props are accurate, functional, and appropriate for the production

Educational Attainment Pathways
Bachelor’s Degree: While not always required, a degree in theatre arts, design, or a related field can provide valuable knowledge and skills for this role
Practical Experience: Hands-on experience in prop construction, scenic design, or theatre production through internships, workshops, or volunteer opportunities
Continuing Education: Keeping up-to-date with advancements in prop-making techniques, materials, and technologies through workshops, seminars, or professional development courses

Low: $30,000 – $40,000 per year
Median: $40,000 – $50,000 per year
High: $50,000 – $60,000+ per year
Median Pay:
Low: $45,000 – $55,000+ per year
Median: $55,000 – $65,000 per year
High: $65,000 – $75,000+ per year
High Pay:
Low: $60,000 – $70,000 per year
Median: $70,000 – $80,000 per year
High: $80,000 – $90,000+ per year
