Entry-Level

Role: Assistant Dramaturg or Research Assistant

Responsibilities: Conducting script analysis, historical research, supporting senior dramaturgs, familiarizing with production procedures.

Role: Associate Dramaturg

Responsibilities: Collaborating with directors and playwrights, providing feedback on scripts, facilitating discussions on themes and concepts, assisting in rehearsal processes.

Role: Senior Dramaturg or Head Dramaturg

Responsibilities: Leading dramaturgical teams, overseeing research processes, providing in-depth analysis of scripts and productions, mentoring junior dramaturgs, contributing to season planning.


Dramatic Analysis: Proficiency in analyzing scripts, identifying themes, character development, and narrative structures

Bachelor’s Degree: Many dramaturgy programs require a bachelor’s degree in theater, literature, or related fields

Graduate Studies: Completion of a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or Master of Arts (MA) in Dramaturgy or Theater Studies from an accredited institution

Internships/Apprenticeships: Gaining practical experience through internships or apprenticeships with theater companies or educational institutions
