
Director
A director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a theatrical production, from conceptualization to performance. They work closely with actors, designers, and production staff to bring a script to life on stage.
Entry-Level
Role: Assistant Director or Production Assistant
Responsibilities: Assisting in rehearsals and production meetings, supporting the director in coordinating logistics and scheduling, familiarizing with stagecraft and production techniques.
Mid-Level
Role: Associate Director
Responsibilities: Participating in casting sessions and auditions, conducting rehearsals, blocking scenes, and providing guidance to actors, assisting in script analysis and conceptual development, managing day-to-day production operations and coordinating with technical crew.
Advanced-Level
Role: Theatre Director
Responsibilities: Directing rehearsals, guiding performances, and refining actors’ interpretations, working closely with designers to ensure cohesive artistic vision, taking charge of all aspects of production, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource management.

Educational Attainment Pathways
Bachelor’s Degree: Many theatre directors hold a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts, drama, or a related field
Master’s Degree: Some directors pursue a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in directing or theatre production to further develop their skills and knowledge
Directing Experience: Gaining practical experience through directing productions at the university level, community theatre, or professional theatre companies
Apprenticeships/Internships: Participating in apprenticeships or internships with established theatre directors or theatre companies to gain hands-on experience and mentorship
